Tax day! (almost)

Just a warning: I filed online (earlier) at Complete Tax.

If you use them, they have buried in the center of their very long License/Terms of Use an opt out:

"Check this box if you do not want to receive our promotional information as indicated above."

Nearly every page I’ve encountered places the Terms of Use opt out box (or if they have any scruples, Opt In) right near where you must click "accept" or "decline."

Not these characters. Its a screen or two away from the buttons you click, buried amongst all the fine print. Very obnoxious, and more than a little tricky.

If you are doing your taxes online, two pieces of advice:  The 15th has very slow wait times, and you risk server crashes/lost filings. You online filers/procrastinators best do them today, rather than tomorrow. Second, read the EULA/Terms of Use.

why CompleteTax? Are they that good? How about the others?

(note: not for this year – that ship has sailed – just curious)

I used CompleteTax this year for the first time. I was very pleased with the results. The best part that I liked was the integration between CompleteTax and Gainskeeper. Helped immensely in completing my Schedule D this year.

By the way Barry…dig the new site design.

I’ve been using Gainskeeper in conjunction with Turbotax and filing through regular mail.

How seamless is the Gainskeeper/CompleteTax integration?

I will have to consider switching next year.

Supabill, that’s what I used last year to file taxes (Turbotax & Gainskeeper). This year for some reason Turbotax was giving me problems with my schedule d from gainskeeper…thus the reason for trying out CompleteTax.

The integration was most excellent between CompleteTax and Gainskeeper. Only gripe I had was you had to search a bit on the site to find the import button from Gainskeeper. But, once found it was just a matter of clicking on it…entering your login and it imported all the capital gains/losses in a flash.

A lesser gripe is the flow of filling out the tax info in CompleteTax isn’t as straight-forward as TurboTax. So, you really have to pay attention more.

Overall, a good experience. I’ll probably use CompleteTax again next year.

Please note…this is just my two cents. Keep the change. :)
