Bad Weather Had No Impact on Retail Sales

Imagine that: the cold Spring weather didn’t impact Retail sales!

WSJ:  "The nation’s retailers turned in a solid performance during May,
overcoming the effects of an unusually cold spring.

Gains were widespread, with luxury department-store operators
such as Nordstrom Inc. and teen apparel retailers like Bebe Stores
Inc. continuing to post very strong sales. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the
world’s largest retailer, reported sales that matched analysts’ modest
estimates.

Same-store sales are a key indicator of a retailer’s growth.
Economists watch retailers’ monthly sales as one indicator of U.S.
consumer-spending trends. But the figures reflect only part of total consumer
spending, as they don’t include all chains."

How are we ever going to explain this? Bad weather, yet sales met estimates . . . that’s a conundrum!
