Its hard to get a sense of the size looking up from ground level of the trees.

    Just think… those magnificent things have been there for eons… they’ve stood there for ages upon ages over everlasting time…

    …even since before 1982.

    My favorite spot for redwoods is Big Basin State
    Park, just north of Santa Cruz. But if you’re
    staying in SF, then Muir Woods is good enough,
    although often more crowded with tourists. No
    doubt you’re discovering there is just too much
    to do, see, and eat in the Bay Area for just one
    short visit.

    Let me echo other comments and suggest that if
    you are going down to Carmel, you continue driving
    down the coast to Big Sur & back. Post a picture
    from that trip!
