Comment Glitch: Avoid Multiple Posts

Typepad has a glitch — it gets hung up after you complete the Turing test ("Verify your comment"). To enter a comment w/o multiple posts, open a new explorer or firefox window by right clicking "Comments." (option click on a Mac)

Write your comment, hit preview. You will be asked to "Verify your comment" — often, several times. Carefully enter the precise letters and numbers only ONCE. Then MINIMIZE THE WINDOW AND LEAVE IT ALONE. The comments have been entered, and are showing up even if it looks like Typepad seems to be "hung" or "frozen."

You can check this in a new window — the comments will appear even before typepad finishes processing that page, or while you have been asked to "Verify your comments."

Alternatively, write the comment in the original window and hit the post button ONCE and wait. It takes about a minute for it to process.

Of course, if typepad had better spam protection built in, you wouldn’t need those annoying captchas. How I hate them. Screedus interruptus, really.

The otherwise-pedestrian blog software I use (serendipity) has very nice, very simple spam protection built in. Maybe I should call Six Apart’s office here in town and suggest they borrow it.

The comment glitch is seperate from the verification. I’ve encountered it on typepad blogs that don’t use verification.

And actually, once you verify if you wait 10 seconds or so and hit the stop button and then go back and refresh the page you commented on your comments likely will show up.

Every 108 minutes I have to enter the code. And then it resets.

    Freaky.
