Truth vs. Truthiness

  So Steven Colbert and I get into a pissing match over the economy, and the next thing I know I get dumped onto his On Notice/Dead to Me list.

Damned Truthiness!

    You made the Colbert show! Congrats.

    So are you going to accept the challenge and appear on his show?

    What were you put on notice for? Pointing out weaknesses in the economy?

    Who is your nominee for president of The Kodiak Klub? Shilling gets my vote, since I’m fairly confident he’s never had a bullish thought in his life. Candidates for the prestigious position include:

    Alan Ableson;
    Bill Fleckenstein;
    John Rocker;
    Doug Kass;
    Stephen Roach;
    David Rosenberg;
    Barry Ritholtz;
    Manuel Asensio;
    Michael Murphy;
    Jim Chanos;
    Gary Shilling

    Silly me, I clicked the moneyshot blog link thinking it was an economics site. So I managed to pull up a nice “moneyshot” image on my corporate PC. Quite an accomplishment, actually, because the Web filters at work are pretty strict. Now I wait for a call from HR…maybe.

    you forgot the guy in Texas who runs the BEARX mutual fund…..David Tice? I think.

    John Rocker gets my vote. He really was bearish on the 7 train, immigrants and single moms.

    David Rocker was pretty bearish too, but he actually made more money the last few years on the long side than the short.

    Barry! Congrats! I imagine the “pissing match” was between you and Colbert’s onscreen character. So, consider it praise.

    Then again, I haven’t see an episode where Colbert spoke to or of you. So, I’m guessing.

    If you’re on his SH%T list you’re doing something right !!!!!!!!!!

    Don’t worry Barry,

    This is clearly a case of confirmation bias (unless you called him some nasty name!) which, if trended into the future, practically guarantees Colberts’ insights will become less and less relevant.

    I find one “mass-media” guy accusing other “mass-media” guys of appealing to emotions rather than facts downright hilarious!

    Makes me want to laugh myself to death!

    I didn’t see the episode so I can’t be sure but Cobert’s ‘Your Dead to Me’ thing is him making fun of O’Reilly. which means that any one who’se ‘dead to him’ makes sense, is a reasonable, and intelligent and thoughtful reader of the national scene.

    Good on you.

    Yeah, go on the show ‘refute’ him, by being saner and smarter than ever. If you can also be funny you’ll be famous. If you want that.

    The Money Shot blog (the link I hat tipped) created it as a goof.

    (Cant anyone recognize a joke?)

  16. Floormaster Squeeze commented on Aug 11

    I recognized both the joke and the source immediately. I guess people here are too afraid of clicking outside links.

    Are you kidding, these guys are Bulls, they’re just the sane ones…

    I defiantly think you should try to get on his show and debate the state of the economy. You would work perfectly off his sarcasm.

    (If you’re lucky maybe he will take you off notice!)

    Yes, a recurring spot on Colbert’s show to discuss the U.S. economy! It could be a sendup of the dry PBS Leher Newshour interviews… BR would make Colbert’s “flag waving patriot” hate list for talking down America’s economy. Take a few charts to substantiate your points BR and Colbert’s comic genius would have a field day!

  20. brion commented on Aug 11

    Damn good idea Tomahawk. Amazingly, some people don’t get that Colbert is sending up the whole Right-wing propaganda-sphere of america
    In his pseudo Kudlow-Fox-O’really alt universe a “money” segment would be awesome and fit right in.

    What I’d REALLY like to see is Barry on Bill O’Reilly’s show telling Bill what he really thinks of him… Buy ya dinner Barry if you do that one.

  22. AnderL commented on Aug 12

    All you guys who think Barry and the Money Shot were on the Colbert Report are clueless Internet noobs. Go give your money to an annuity salesman, since you can’t put out the effort of at least 2 minutes of due diligence without having to click an external link.

  23. rockprotect commented on Aug 12

    AnderL, falling for a gag that would have meant nothing financially either way is a different than approaching a situation with financial (or political) consequences.

    Hey, for the curious: http://www.shipbrook.com/onnotice/

    This is the Web site that generates the On Notice list. Strangely missing from the image on TBP is the source text on the bottom-right corner.

  25. Sherman McCoy commented on Aug 15

    Dan: I’d lose the joke if I left the source text on there. But for attribution I made the image link to the source (click on it on my blog).
