When we have what used to be CNN Headline news running “Where is Callie”? half the day or the latest missing white woman story, and an entire network dedicated to right wing propaganda, Stewart and Colbert provide a breath of fresh air. My kids get most of their news from the Daily Show and Colbert, and are amazingly well informed. But then, my eldest used to say he learned more from the History Channel and Discover Channel than he learned in school.

PBS indeed used to provide much more of an education. Let’s hope under a more sane government, it returns to its real job. Let’s hope we all can return to real jobs, instead of making money on asset bubbles and selling crap to each other.

I just can’t wait to see what they’ll be willing or able to lampoon when Obama gets in..

The Daily Show was around before Bush; it was just a lot less famous. Hell, Jon was even running it then (the show was almost completely apolitical under Craig Kilborn). Obama will be lampooned. Trust me.

However, what you need to understand is that the primary target of the Daily Show is the media and the press narrative.

Stewart and the writers are top shelf, but — thinking back the reaming he gave Tucker Carlson — the pollyanna coyness is a little much.

I’ve seen them call out the Right for the right reasons — and be really, really poignant — but they are loath to point out when the emperor has no clothes on Left, and follow it home. It’s hard to watch when Kennedy makes a gaffe or the Right makes a legitimate point (it happens), but it’s deflected off into some homoerotic reference, or outright pathos — anything but a ruthless pursuit of the truth.

It’s just another well written, Left-leaning show.

I just can’t wait to see what they’ll be willing or able to lampoon when Obama gets in… Perhaps they’ll hire some more moderate/conservative humor talent, or steal it from The Onion (which is very good about lampooning all sides)..

At least there’s a better chance for good material than if McCain wins.. Old jokes are old..

Thanks for posting that Barry. I found it quite gripping. Jon really desperately didn’t want to be called a journalist. He was almost rude to the point. Bill Moyes was trying to be complimentary but Jon didn’t see it as a compliment and didn’t believe it either.

How extraordinary that he sees himself as a warrior for truth. That he’s his doing his bit for the fight….the battle against the almost undefinable lies….daily.

He’s a hero.

I like both the Daily Show and Corbert. But Jon is mistaken in believing that only young people are his fans. There are plenty of older people, like myself, who watch and enjoy also.

While I watch every new show from Stewart and Corbert, I rarely watch network or cable news unless some major disaster has occurred but I can only stomach the formula news the MSM puts out for a very limited time.
