The deficit spending of recent years wasn't just to finance tax breaks for the rich and wars; it was to reduce as much as possible the ability of government to help society. You don't need a tinfoil hat to see the Bush pattern. It has been exhaustively documented in the Kevin Phillips book American Dynasty. You could have 10 medicares and 5 social security programs fully funded with the dough these bastards are spending on wars. They never seem to talk about how soon the money to fight wars is going to run out but they talk until they're blue in the face about social security and medicare. FDR had it made compared with BHO. Manufacturing was much bigger than finance and we exported machinery and had a surplus. The trashing now was almost complete. Bush and his gang are parasites. They hate government and wish to restore entailment and primogeniture as well as no inheritance taxes on the landed gentry (them). The hell with the rest of us, they say. BHO has an impossible task. He's been set up as a fall guy. I wish him well but I don't see any help coming. The segment of society which has most of the wealth won't be squeezed. They have the money and the lawyers plus enough politicians in their pocket to make any legislation a charade. Sure, they'll make a big splash and lots of announcements. And that's about it. Hold on to what's left of your cash, folks. Greed never has enough.

Uncle Sam's Credit Line Running Out?
By RANDALL W. FORSYTH

"Cutting through the technical jargon, the yield curve and the credit-default swaps market both indicate the markets are exacting a greater cost to lend to Uncle Sam. And it's not because of anticipated recovery, which would reduce, not increase, the cost of insuring Treasury debt against default.

All of which suggests America's credit line has its limits."

A lot less money going to prop up real estate, and mortgage-backed assets; more money going to support the unemployed and to improve the infrastructure. That would be a step in the right direction.
