The following passages are searches from the www that intrigued me (last week) as I was following up points in a book I'm reading "Unequal Protection" by Thom Hartmann. "The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights."
This thread works as FYI.

"I shall therefore conclude with a proposal that your watchmen be instructed, as they go on their rounds, to call out every night, half-past twelve, Beware of the East India Company.
- signed by Rusticus, 1773"

ie: Boston Tea Party
"A pamphlet was circulated through the colonies called The Alarm and signed by an enigmatic Rusticus. One issue made clear the feelings of colonial Americans about Englands largest transnational corporation and its behavior around the world:
Are we in like Manner to be given up to the Disposal of the East India Company, who have now the Assurance, to step forth in Aid of the Minister, to execute his Plan, of enslaving America? Their Conduct in Asia, for some Years past, has given simple Proof, how little they regard the Laws of Nations, the Rights, Liberties, or Lives of Men. Fifteen hundred Thousands, it is said, perished by Famine in one Year, not because the Earth denied its Fruits; but [because] this Company and their Servants engulfed all the Necessaries of Life, and set them at so high a Rate that the poor could not purchase them."

ie: William "Captain" Kidd
"was a Scottish sailor remembered for his trial and execution for piracy after returning from a voyage to the Indian Ocean. Some modern historians deem his piratical reputation unjust, as there is evidence that Kidd acted only as a privateer"

"is often remembered in infamy as a cruel, bloody pirate. Indeed, he, along with his crew, has been accused of every crime in pirate history by popular tradition. He achieved perhaps more fame in song, story, and legend than any other pirate to sail the seven seas. However, historical record calls this characterization into question. It is more likely that Kidd earned his reputation through circumstance and did not consider himself to even be a pirate.
Unfortunately, when news of the deed reached England, along with horrifying tales of torture, the British East India Company declared Kidd a pirate."
