Fascinating, especially the story of math and rice in China. I have intimate experience with a number of Chinese people and have often wondered about their seemingly inexhaustible ability to focus on dull, detailed work, and about their mathematical abilities, but I never once thought of rice as the reason. But having heard his reasoning, it makes perfect sense to me.

KJ, so that you know, it was your post that led me to hit /play/..

I was, at first blush, highly dismissive of this offering..

Now, I’m glad I did..Having the opportunity to See Gladwell, and hear Him discuss his new Book, my respect for what he is up to has grown immensely..Somehow, though, I suspect he has, as well.

To your point, about His point, about Rice, He’s Correct. I just wonder how long it will take the LameStream to give Him credit for it..

as an aside, Charlie Rose, for whatever other baggage he carries, Is an excellent Interviewer..
