IMHO, the sense of the country is very clear now that the administration (how do I love thee, Phil Gramm) wilfully destroyed what regulations existed. We now realize what a bad deal that was. The “Clinton-years-people” (save Robert Rubin, perhaps) were not part of that wrecking machine and I don’t see them becoming that anytime soon. A recent Associated Press article quoted transition officials for President-elect Obama as saying “[o]nly one outside economist” contacted by the President-elect’s advisors had “voiced skepticism” about the President-elect’s emerging plans for an economic “stimulus” spending bill with a price tag as large as $1 trillion, with the vast majority of that number going to new spending on government programs and projects.
