Busy Day for Travel
Futures are strong, and we are looking at a much more positive open on who-knows-what basis. (Yahoo?)
I am off to speak at a conference in DC — way too much travel, remind me why I agreed to this? — so real time posting will be light.
I have a few posts queued up that are quite interesting — also, see the Cafe and Digital Media for some terrific work.

You know you really love the attention, Barry. :)
And, you know it will pay off in future business. Ride the wave.

It thought the pop was due to the new, new rumor of the Gov’s new new plan to buy toxic assets from banks, or remove from balance sheet, erase, turn to gold, put lipstick on or call macaroni.
John Borcher is enjoying this, my SKF is not.

Will Ben let this rally carry things a while, or try the Greenspan approach, and put the pedal to the metal and try like hell to generate some irrational exuberance?
I know the interest rate gas pedal is nailed to the floor already, so that leaves only the wild & crazy stuff — moderation and observation being completely out of the question, along with introspection & thought.
D’ya think he might figure out that be acting panicky, he might be generating a bit of panic in the markets?
Not that things aren’t really, really bad, what with unemployment reaching escape velocity, mortgage failures similarly breaking free of earth’s gravitational pull, and banks continuing to hoard TARP funds (or spending them on ridiculous office renovations and new corporate jets — or trying to, at least), and new fund fraudsters being unearthed on a daily basis. But these things are pretty much old hat by now, nobody is surprised by them anymore.
What WOULD be surprising, is a measured, methodical, sensible approach to managing the chaos, instead of running around screaming FIRE! and spraying seltzer water on random individuals. This to too much like the Three Stooges or the Marx Brothers (Karl and Groucho).
