<description>I call BS on his bag of coal per gigabyte claim... A ballparking 10 min lookup on google came to the conclusion that, if by internet you mean all electronics (including TV&#039;s, curling irons, stereos, phones...), and you limit bandwidth to 150 TB/s, then maybe is it something like that. Sounds like a wild claim to me, esp since it is made without footnotes.

bag of coal: 4000.0 g
watts/hr per gram 1.7 w/h
bag of coal as elec: 6.8 kw/h

Total US energy consupmtion:
                    29000 TWh/yr
total for all electronics (~2%):
                      580 TWh/yr
total for all electronics every hour (res + biz)
                       66.2 GWh

total US internet bandwidth ~
                      150 TB/sec
            = 150000 GB/sec
            = 9000000 GB/hour
            = 61200000 kw/h of electricity (X 6.6 kwh)
            = 61.2 gigawatt/h
