Gold to oil ratio has spiked from 6 to 21...30 is a 3 standard deviation event. I would not bet on gold here. I would be long oil/short gold.

Too many people are buying gold because they believe the apocalypse is just around the corner. For that reason, gold will go down when the apocalypse does not occur as scheduled.

LOL! I've been debating the significance of the "cash 4 gold" ads with myself for a few weeks now. (Fortunately, I will win the debate no matter what the outcome.)

The fact that someone is trying to get gold from consumers suggests a top -- in the dollar. (I.e., that's bullish for gold.) Then again, if Cash4Gold buys at enough of a discount, then they really don't care which way gold moves. So, I don't know how to read this.

Jack, what about the Japanese idea of salvaging gold from their sewage system? Whenever people start going to or suggesting great lengths for something (e.g., oil sands, skyscraper boom, floating airport for San Diego), a "top" is not far off.
