Here is a number for everyone, I just read that George W. Bush is charging $150k a pop for speaking events.

Who in the hell would pay $150k to hear him speak, and this was for a business conference no less!

It’s ripping our country apart because the ottos of this country don’t think there is a problem.

Several TRILLION spent on elite entitlements (Grand larceny in a real world) and Obama is concerned about medicare and social security costs? Give me a fucking break!

This is the real story. AIG owes us $170B. I don’t care how much they pay people if they pay us back. If the $170B is sunk cost, never to be returned, then we need more pitchforks and torches.

Regarding context, take the homeowner who is losing their home. Maybe they make $60K-100K a year. $160 Million in bonuses would help allot of those people. When looking at it from this POV, $160 Million is allot of money. You could help 800 homeowners reduce their principal by $200,000 (I live in the Los Angeles area where home prices are still through the roof compared to the rest of the country) or 3,200 people reduce their principal by $50,000.

To understand the outrage you have to consider what the medain household income in the US is.
In 2008 the Median HH Income was $48,000

So we end up with

Bail out $170,000,000,000
Bonuses $165,000,000
Median HH Income $48,000

OMG the masses have awoken from their American Idol Slumber
and tuned in to the greatest show on earth.

and she will be back at Idol
and he at his bar games
or whatever

I’m of two minds on this — I share the concern of how lightly the difference between ‘m’ and ‘b’ and ‘tr’ get interchanged in front of a ‘illion’, but I really resent the high-handed opinions of many that therefore we should just fogedah bout it, that these bonuses don’t matter. Of course they matter, and we can do something about them, AND we can do something about the b’s and tr’s.
