The new Camaro looks like crap, especially the taillights. They’d have done better to make an exact duplicate of a ‘69 SS and pit it on a modern chassis.
My son and I went to see the new Camaro on the first day they officially appeared in dealer showrooms. It’s a good-looking sort-of retro car that will sell quite well, I think. Both of us independently came to the same conclusion about the one major drawback in the car’s design: the visibility is awful. Forget about seeing anything in the next lane and slightly behind you. This isn’t just a blind spot – it’s a big deal. The side mirrors are quite small as is the rear window. I’ve got far better visibility (believe it or not) from the driver’s seat in my C6 Corvette coupe. Also, I can actually see most of the hood on my car – forget that with the Camaro. My son, who was anxious to like the car because he’s due to replace his current vehicle was disappointed enough by this one flaw to dismiss the Camaro as a top candidate for his garage. I briefly considered buying the top model with the most powerful engine option, but I’ll stick with the Corvette. I may not have a back seat, but the Camaro might as well not have one – I’d hate to be stuck back there for a ride around the block. We haven’t checked out the Mustang or the Challenger yet, but plan to soon. The Camaro is a lot of performance and cool appearance for the price – if the visibility thing doesn’t bother you, go for it…
Okay, I think the new Camaro doesn’t look too bad. It sounds like it is powered very well and that they were impressed with the power and handling. BUT……I have a ‘69 SS convertible with a slightly pumped 350. Guess which one of the two I think I will like best?
OK here’s my favorate muscle car. Unfortunately its not a production vehicle in fact the body is 25 years old but it will beat anything except a funny car or a rail from a standing start.

The Camaro looks hot. As does the CTS, the Malibu and the Solstice.
It is the great irony that GM was finally refreshing their line with sexy designs (which apparently drive quite well) as this crisis hit.

Thumbs up on the Mustang, however.
