I was at a Wired conference (Disruptive By Design Conference) all day today. Really a fantastic event — I go to plenty of boring conferences, but this one really rocked.

Terrific line up of speakers: Elon Musk, Shai Agassi, Amazon’s  Jeff Bezos, GE’s Jeff Immelt, and Vivek Kundra, the new CIO of the US — be sure to check out Data.gov.

And the audience was just as impressive. I am sitting watching Bezos, when this women sits down next to me — Martha Stuart! During a break, Tim O’Reilly comes over an introduces himself (THAT Tim O’Reilly). At the cocktail hour, I discuss FusionIQ with Google’s CIO. It was total madness.

All told, a fascinating day. If you ever get an invite to any event they host, it is a must attend. They put on quite the show . . .

You didn’t get any stock tips from her, did you?

Sounds like quite a bash. So can we expect some re-invigoration of the tech world? I mean something beyond the Kindle and Segway? The iPhone is cool but it’s still just a fancy phone. Something significant better be on the tech horizon, otherwise it’s just Moore’s law and physics driving the industry.

The “Pirate Party” movement is gaining ground in Europe. The Swedish variant actually gained an EU Parliament seat. Their platform is “free Internet – no copyright protection”. It will be interesting to see how tech will morph to accommodate elimination of the profit motive for books, music, TV, and films.

Any insights other than semi-celeb hobnobbing sound bites?

Wows, sounds a lot like TED. From looking at the website, this is something that Chris Anderson would do. Can’t wait for some of the video. Especially of Jeff Immelt, where in the text previews, he addresses offshoring and outsourcing.
