Today’s unusual market related project comes via Uniform ChaosSTOC Stock Ticker Orbital Comparison.

It is a data visualization of the S&P 500 from the NYSE programmed in Processing:

“Each circle in the visualization represents one of the stocks in the S&P, with characteristics of each visualizing different data points for each. There is a legend in the project that will explain the relationships between data and visuals, as well as a list of the controls for interactivity. In the very near future we will be posting a tutorial video as well as the podcast ACM recorded of my Siggraph presentation.

Below is a screen grab, and you can see video here.

The project currently runs between 20 and 30 minutes behind real time and locks up momentarily when it updates every 10 minutes, which we are working on fixing asap. The project requires an internet connection, but I am unsure of other system requirements. We will be optimizing newer versions, and I will be making a mailing list of everyone that contacts me to announce updates.

Having been involved for several years in the data visualization software business, I can say that this definitely advances the state of the art for visualization of large, multi-dimensional data sets. Kudos to your team!

yes, this field of Informatics is coming a long way..
ably defined, in this context, here http://www.informatics.buffalo.edu/

tangentially, w/this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_informatics it is surprising(not really) that this aspect of HC (health care) has gone un-remarked upon, to any significant degree, during our latest ‘debate’ over HCR.

LSS: given the tools that have, already, been developed, the diagnosis of most HC ‘problems’ could be turned into (sp)iPhone app and be handled by a Girl Scout.

for further, we should see http://clusty.com/search?input-form=clusty-simple&v%3Asources=webplus&query=patient+record+portability and remember that HIPAA was passed in ’96..

now, simply, it isn’t a matter of ‘lack of affordable/wide-spread technologies’, it is, simply, a matter of orchestrated suppression/cream-skimming..

Thankfully, we have the AMA & FDA, at the minimum, making sure that HC, in ‘professional’ hands, doesn’t needlessly harm anyone..

as an aside, is there a Sector of this ‘Economy’ that hasn’t been rigged to Fail?

I expect the GS Black Hole to come floating into the picture at any given moment and suck all the matter into itself…
