Comcast/NBC Deal Looks to be Real
As noted last night, Comcast is discussing a majority NBC purchase from GE:
Its good to have low friends in high places — especially lawyers! (Thanks, David!)

what’s in it for comcast? appears like a lose/win to me

Comcast will either spin off CNBC or turn it into a reputable business news provider in an attempt to bolster ratings to profitable status. What would a CNBC with objectivity and integrity look like? Who would stay and who would go? Who couldn’t adjust to an atmosphere of professionalism? Maybe it would become an infomercial network for sales pundits who have a fund to hype and some of the current news personalities would just be there for continuity between 15 minute commercials.

Perhaps I can start watching NBC networks again.

Ahab: Comcast gets to buy an asset that they can improve. How? NBC has been grossly mismanaged in recent years. Horrible programming combined with a twisted far left political agenda has torpedoed ratings especially on MSNBC.

LB looks forward to those days when Cramer is hiding underneath his desk instead of mutilating teddy bears.

This is about controlling content- censorship. MSNBC- far left? Utter lack of perspective. Most of their talent is as bourgeois as you. Their producers, their administration- far left? You don’t what far left is.
Exemptions from the Sherman Act got mentioned- got to shut that down post haste.
The goal is for everyone to tune into Fox regardless of the channel they are watching.
Brian Kilmeade from Fox and Friends:
BROWN HAIRED GUY: We keep marrying other species and other ethnics–
GRETCHEN CARLSON: Are you sure you are not suffering from some of the causes of dementia right now?
BROWN HAIRED GUY: The problem is the Swedes have pure genes. They marry other Swedes, that’s the rule. Finns marry other Finns; they have a pure society. In America we marry everybody. We will marry Italians and Irish.
DAVE BRIGGS: This study does not apply?
BROWN HAIRED GUY: Does not apply to us.

getalife-
by providing content- won’t they be competing against the very folks that use them to distribute their programming?
that by itself may create some issues IMO
October 1st, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Ahab,
They might run into some regulators issues / some non competency issues. Unless regulators are working.

Getalife:
It doesn’t matter who owns that shitty media outlet. Or Fox.
They are all going to be history after the big wave of societal change arrives.
At some point, widespread revulsion with the media and the oligarchy they support will wipe them all away.
Within a few years anything associated with the Boomer generation’s culture of consumption will be vilified.

Faber was on CNBC early this morn poo-pooing it saying it wasn’t going to happen… maybe a 20% stake…

“Within a few years anything associated with the Boomer generation’s culture of consumption will be vilified”
amen to that- and another thought-
weren’t these the same counter culture hippies that eschewed the establishment and corporate America-hypocrite mf’ers

LB – “Within a few years . . . . . .”
Oh, I think this has already happened.

Leftback – you really have quite the sense of humor or is it deluded arrogance? With all due respect to this good blog, it attracts a few thousand unique visitors per day. Just who do you see dominating the new media world? Like it or not, Fox is growing fast.
Ahab – anything associated with the boomers??? What boomers consume is not demonstrably different than those who came before or after.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:50 pm
@GetALife: And that says quite a bit about the sad state of affairs in this country, does it not? Now go back to your cubicle at FOX News.

“who do you see dominating the new media world? Like it or not, Fox is growing fast.”
hmmm . . .so Fox is new media? Well television has only been around 60 or 70 years or so- so it’s newer that the telegraph I guess
“What boomers consume is not demonstrably different than those who came before or after.”

Debating with a FOX “News” viewer is akin to a debate with my dog (no offense, little doggie).
October 1st, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Fox is idiot level, lowest common denominator, IQ 90 entertainment and is unworthy of further comment.
Two words: Bill O’Reilly. Now leave me alone, you idiotic conservative troll.

GetALife:
Far left? Last I checked, JoeScar was one of Newt’s boys from 1994. Then you have Pat Buchanan. KO and Maddow don’t make it a far left network. They are the only two voices of the left on that network.

“The Great Comcast Sucks” just doesn’t seem to have the same ring to it (and somebody’s already registered comcastsucks.com)…
October 1st, 2009 at 11:08 pm
I think what this really means is, once Comcast takes over, Maria Bartiromo won’t show up for “The Closing Bell” until around 9 PM.
October 1st, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Comcast and GE doing a deal strikes me as 2 desperate companies trying to get attention with a faux or maybe real “deal”.
