“…So you’re saying that Oregon’s revenues isn’t off 19%? What is it?”

It’s not the number I have a problem with, but rather the horribly overgeneralized way in which the quoted summary assigns causes to that number, and tops it off with a broad accusation of fiscal irresponsibility on the part of the state government. I don’t expect them to nail every detail of the fiscal picture of a state with a comparatively small economy, but they could’ve at least tried to grasp out that Oregon is almost as crazy as California in some respects.

Public health care detached from employers would create a boom in small business and hence job creatation. Millions of Americans sit in thier cubes at mega employers simply because of health care insurance.

They cannot risk chaning jobs, going to a small business employer, changing states, or starting thier own business unless thier spouse has health care and works at some mega employer or US government, the ultimae mega employer.

De-regulation and globalization has destroyed free markets in America. De-regultion simply means re-regulation to favor those with deep pockets the paid off conress and the senate.

Massive re-regulation to create free markets is required. The powers the be will scream, they should be in jail.

bhenick Says:

The summaries in the Pew report betray a complete failure of research…

So you're saying that Oregon's revenues isn't off 19%? What is it?

Say something like Common Man .

Common Man,
We do have that problem with slack capacity already, won't work until we get closer to the margin on that. If you're steeling competitors staff it would help.

You know the comments on this site used to have a certian standard, seems like rhetoric is taking over.

Eliminating all payroll taxes would help. Give employers greater incentive to hire a person than to buy a machine and he will

I can speak for Oregon, to a point at least.

The summaries in the Pew report betray a complete failure of research…Oregon doesn’t have a sales tax, or a personal property tax levied on private individuals.Oregon’s income tax isn’t all that progressive.A lot of Oregon’s public funding (at all levels) comes from property taxes, which is why Oregon’s funding problems are comparable to California’s in some respects.

In other words, the only thing the Pew summary got right was the statement that the drivers of Oregon’s economy are taking an awful hit. There’s meaningful support for raising the CMT, which (as I understand it) hasn’t been touched since the Thirties.

…And finally, where there is fiscal irresponsibility in Oregon’s government, it can be laid at the feet of tax opponents, all ably assisted by nominally right-wing interest groups and their friends in the state legislature. By constitutional mandate surplus income tax receipts must be returned to the taxpayers; the threshold is set according to forecasts made by an executive agency analogous to the OMB.

…In case anybody cares.

Lots of great stuff here, BUT this is bogus knee jerk ideological tripe:

"government spending does not increase GDP over time. It is a temporary nonproductive stimulus. It takes private investment to create jobs and increase productivity."

We treat our people like trash and our elites like royalty. As a result we have fewer good jobs, stagnant wages, and soaring inequality. Not only that, our elites have become predatory and have captured our democracy.

We need to cut the defense budget, raise taxes on the rich, and invest in infrastructure and our workforce. We need to re-design the contract between businesses and employees, so there is less incentive to churn, to cut employees, to go for the cheapest, to outsource.

And if the elites don't like it, they can cut and run to China.

Free Market,

We know what the PEW Center is and they weren't the source of data, the Rockefeller Institute of Government was the source.
So what kind of knee jerk uninformed comment do you have about the Rockefeller Institute?

Also, citing wikipedia while you'r attacking somethings credibility makes you look like an idiot.

Great - Except citing the PEW Center - A Right Wing Think Tank developed with Oil Industry Funds & Donations (Sun Oil Company) isnt a legitimate source of data.

Why not cite Fox News? They are a legit organization right?
