Street Protest at Goldman Sachs DC Office Today
I found this announcement amusing:
Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein may have had his tongue in his cheek when he said his bankers were doing “God’s work,” but the company’s critics aren’t laughing.
In fact, a couple hundred of them — led by Service Unions International Union president Andy Stern — plan to gather outside of Goldman Sachs’ Washington offices Monday morning to protest the firm’s mega-bonuses, and demand the end of the “too big to fail” doctrine, according to a press release.
The event will be held outside 101 Constitution Ave. N.W., an office building that’s home to many of the most powerful lobbyists and corporations in town, including Goldman. It’s also where you can find POLITICO’s Capitol Hill bureau (in the basement).
Swing by, chant a few protests, drop off a resume . . .

This isn’t the business that made this nation so prosperous. There Objectivist model is what brought us low. And to this day, they continue to deny that they were the cause of the near-depression, while decrying the way Obama’s (and Bush’s and Paulson’s and Congress’s) intervention are what’s saved the nation’s economy.

That is not a tongue in cheek comment. That is a comment of some one who sees himself out of reach from the laws and the government. It is a “on your face Obama” attitude that says I do as I please regardless of public opinion. It is the ultimate expression of arrogance and not very different than this:

God will smite them, but that’s in the afterlife. We live in the here and now. All the salvation in the world isn’t going to save 200,000 jobs this month.
Thanks to Goldman. Why don’t they just trademark the term “In God We Trust”? It’s on everything they care about.
