"Read it with an open mind first…I’ll admit it has changed my thinking a little bit."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/04/AR2009120402016.html?sid=ST2009120402037

Changed your thinking about what, investor? How ill-conceived the bailout was? How ill-equipped our leaders are to cope with an economic crisis? Please...

Interesting read but it gave me a sick feeling in the gut, confirming about this country's leadership what should be apparent to anyone who is paying attention. The worst part is, it hasn't gotten any better under Obama.

RW, you can attempt to discredit Mr. Will all you wish by citing a dispute in a fact from a February 2009 article in which the WaPo Ombudsman truncates the truth.

This is verbatim what the Artic Climate Research Site stated:

"Observed global sea ice area, defined here as a sum of N. Hemisphere and S. Hemisphere sea ice areas, is near or slightly lower than those observed in late 1979.... However, observed N. Hemisphere sea ice area is almost one million sq. km below values seen in late 1979 and S. Hemisphere sea ice area is about 0.5 million sq. km above that seen in late 1979...."

Why didn't the Ombudman address the S. Hemisphere increase?

George Will nails it.

George Will is not credible on the subject of global climate change or science generally if it comes to that. This from the WaPo Ombudsman (http://tinyurl.com/yju5juq) on the subject of Will's misrepresentation of research and failure to acknowledge facts contrary to his opinion in a previous global-climate-change-is-bunk column:

"[Contrary to Will's citation, the Artic Research Climate Center web site actually] ...said that while global sea ice areas are "near or slightly lower than those observed in late 1979," sea ice area in the Northern Hemisphere is "almost one million sq. km below" the levels of late 1979. That's roughly the size of Texas and California combined. In my mind, it should have triggered a call for clarification to the center.

But according to Bill Chapman, a climate scientist with the center, there was no call from Will or Post editors before the column appeared. He added that it wasn't until last Tuesday -- nine days after The Post began receiving demands for a correction -- that he heard from an editor at the newspaper. It was Brewington who finally e-mailed, offering Chapman the opportunity to write something that might help clear the air.

Readers would have been better served if Post editors, and the new ombudsman, had more quickly addressed the claims of falsehoods.

Editors also missed opportunities to move the debate to washingtonpost.com. Will's column attracted hundreds of comments online, and the three-day cutoff period for comments could have been extended to allow more. Experts could have been quickly engaged to debate Will's assertions. Clarifications from the Arctic Climate Research Center could have been posted."

RW: Reality checks require primary sources; citing the chattering class as authority is only another way to get more smoke blown up your ass (there, I brought it back to the topic of the thread).

To all readers with a new found love for Neel Kaskari: Please scroll to the top of the page and look again at the Strange Old Tool. It was a nice PR piece to burnish Kaskari's shabby image before he re-enters the work force.

"That's the thing," Kashkari blurts across the table. "I started praying when I came to Treasury. At Goldman, I didn't pray. Not once. 'Cause I just didn't care. At Treasury, there were so many times." That's right, nobody at GS cares about anything but their offshore bank accounts.

The shed? Looks like a "doomstead" to me, LOL.
