not sure why its a surprise. Dubai owes money to foreign banks. why would they want to bail them out? and most of those banks are western banks. though i am sure there are others. they had no reason to try and bail out these companies. they won't loose jobs over it (and they might not care any way, its not a democracy after all)

All that hooey built with slave labor and they still collapse in a sh*t pile of debt. Who in their right mind would ever give that gaggle of wankers a dime? Citigroup reference- tells you everything one needs to know about the leadership in US banking circles. It's all a mirage to hide the sex trade. Scumbags.

Interesting stories. The NY Times offered this slide show on Dubai yesterday.

http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/30/showcase-85/?hp

Use Full screen mode for best effect. I also thought the photo of the sewage truck convoy said it all.

A Default by any other name....

KellyD3 - that NYT article mention of the Citigroup loan is interesting. Wonder if Uncle Hank and Uncle Ben were worried about Dubai blowing up and used the TARP as an indirect bailout as they did for Goldman? It wasn't like it's bubble status was a surprise to anyone who bothered lookng.

The did have really neat commercials on Al Jazeera though.
