Dangerous Minds:

It was the blog post heard ‘round the world. When Charles Johnson wrote Why I Parted Ways With The Right in the space of a few minutes and posted it on his popular Little Green Footballs blog, he had no idea the firestorm it would set off. Nasty denunciations, death threats and a New York Times magazine feature article later, Charles Johnson joined me for a lively discussion about what happened to him, the Darwin-hating, know-nothing Creationists and the frenzied insanity (and racism) of the anti-Obama right. Part one of two.

I don’t get _that_ level of rhetoric — you end up hating/demonizing as much as the boogie man you’re fighting. And as for “know-nothing Creationists” — for heaven’s sake, Mendel himself could fit that description.

    Why demonize?

Amen, W_Nelson. The left is a sponge soaked in many hatreds and barely needs squeezing to witness the putrid fluid flow. Those on the so-called “Right” who are mean and narrow and weak minded wear their ignorance and prejudice like a proud badge. However, there are those on the so-called “Left” who wrap their meanness in cloaks of compassion and intellect, yet let slip their true feelings all too easily.

Doing away with these terms “Left” and “Right” would be helpful as they only serve to divide and demonize. Those simplistic terms, like “liberal” and “conservative”, are there for clever manipulators of people. They don’t serve dialogue and thought, but serve as shortcuts to the most primitive areas of our brains. They serve our strong desire to join tribes and define “others”.

But, hey, it’s great fun for the powers that be, whether institutional or otherwise.

Well, Ive never heard of Charlie or his LGF site. The referenced story by Charlie, well it was pathetic. I looked around his site a bit, and it confirmed my gut. He’s an idiot. Of course this post will probably be considered “hate” level….

As for the video. I saw two smug boobs who really dont understand what they are talking about. If you will, little Hitchens who point to the fringe people and groups and associate it with a group that does not at all hold the level of ignorance and dogma they claim.

In short, such behavior and the creation of such associations is to participate in evil.

Barry, have to say, this is the most disappointing look into your mind’s eye I’ve ever seen.

Charles Johnson has stated that he considers Lew Rockwell to support bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism. He also considers Rockwell to be a representative of ‘the right,’ even though Rockwell is a libertarian and agrees with the left on many of the social liberty issues. While many of his critiques of the right are valid, by attacking those who argue for both social and economic liberty Jonhson damages his own credibility.

Johnson’s claim to fame is that the document with Bush’s screw-ups had proportional type, like MS Word which was developed much later. Unfortunately for him, IBM developed those typewriters in the late 60′s and I used one clerking for the 8th Army in the 70′s. It was a pain in the butt as I am not good at typing.

After 21 years in the military I can spot a fellow soldier/officer-puke. Not GWB.

    Smug boobs indeed.

BigPicture has hit a home run on this one. LGF has always been about being true to the facts and near libertarianism. HKSNight most certainly read one or 2 postings and immediately opened his mind meld with Rush is right. The wacked out right HATES homos. The Wacked out right hates anyone who is not them. The wacked out right ignores facts, as they can create their own self referencing factoids. LGF has always been about facts and presentation of them.
Oh hatterdude, step away from the crack pipe eh? WTF is your posting about? You sound like the guy whispering how your ear rings are telling you how JFK was aced.
drocto sounds like one of our pundits finding balance between Beck calling for death of liberals and Micheal Moore calling for better health care. Yeah, righto dorcto, that represents the extremist right and the extremist left. Both are the same! Idiot.
How many pictures of tea partiers baring signs referencing in some way “n1gg3r” do you need to see how crazy the right is? When the leader of the house and senate declare the purpose of opposing ANY health care reform is to destroy a presidency, how is that not mentally ill? What does the right represent at this point except crazy? Please, present a factiod that more than 1 person can say is true!!!

Charles Johnson, not sure if this is a spoof or for real?? To demonize the ‘Right’ seems to justify whatever Mr. Johnson seems to believe. As the left ‘hated’ George Bush, there seems to be a like ‘hatred’ growing for Obama. But why is it racist, why is it “Creativism – what ever that is”, why is it ride your bike in front of a bus??
Most discussions we engage in are about ‘individualism” and the responsibility for yourself, family, and community where the need is there. It is about ‘pulling yourself up by your boot straps’, not relying on a ‘big daddy’. Yes, I’ve had mentors and assists, but never ‘I know better than you”. I was left to my own mistakes and personal growth.
We are enjoying the fruits of our labors, but preparing to assure our grandchildren have the same opportunities. Yes, and doing community foundations that help other children is our community. There is no race, belief system, or destruction wish – but there is a sense of frustration that our fellow American politicians have poor leadership qualities, yet believe ;they’ know better.
That I will leave to the elections and only hope that those ‘with all the answers’ are discovered for what they are.

is not a demonization, it is more a description of their own behaviors. Just observe the relentless zeal in their pursuit of eliminating the Theory of Evolution for instance. [ By the way, there is a huge difference between a theory (in the scientific sense) and a "hunch". ]

A completely fact-free, dogma-driven crusade that has ensnared the education system in this country. How are we suppose to treat such behavior? A point of view maybe? The “other side of the “debate”?

It is not a debate at all. Science and facts are NOT decided by some popular consensus. Yet, these people just won’t ever stop and THINK!!! They CANNOT possibly be wrong because, Oh bliss! God told them so.

With God himself on their side, the rest of us, busy in searching and discovering the wonders on Nature and mankind have sadly not come to the painful realization that we’re wrong, period! Which makes us, misguided, faithless, even heretics.

But I’ll bet you 10K that this is not demonization, right?
