The Coke Bottle Redesigned
A design student’s eco-friendly and edgy reworking of the Coke bottle.
This is only the first quarter of it — the full piece was 3 megs — too big to post here.

Now, if someone can convince wal mart to stop bagging each individual item in it’s own plastic bag….

I actually like it. Very clever.
aspelham – Many Walmarts don’t offer bags anymore.

Plastic soda bottles are round and contoured for a reason. I’m skeptical that a bottle with straight sides and square corners could retain its shape and strength with highly pressurized contents. Right idea though.

I think all storage containers like consumer bottles should be square. Round bottles/jars/etc. waste so much storage space!

Jojo,
pay attention to ADC’s point..Geometry effects structural strength..
also, envision why the “OK” Sign is so easy for us to make (with our hands)..
I wonder if this Designer, actually, knows that Henry Ford produced ‘bio-plastics’ pre-WWII (?)

Great idea. Beautiful graphic. But, there is a typo in the text. I hate when that happens… If you can’t find it, let me know and I’ll point it out.

ADC is right: Either the sides bulge out, or the sides start concave, and then, when you open the lid, you get a geyser, or if you make it stiff enough, you make it out of 5 or 10 times as much material as the cylindrical bottle.
There is a reason that gas cylinders are cylinders.
