The Hottest Known Planet is Doomed
That hottest known planet may be its shortest-lived …

This NASA artist’s concept image shows that the hottest known planet in the Milky Way galaxy may also be its shortest-lived world. The doomed planet is being eaten by its parent star, according to observations made by a new instrument on NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS). The planet may only have another 10 million years left before it is completely devoured.

I love concept art.
The original observation probably looked something like this: 1010010011101010010100101010001001010100010011101001000101010101010010101010…

Strange that the star would be “devouring” the planet.
How old is the planet, and how old is the star?
One would think that if they were formed together, there would be some sort of equilibrium between them, such that one would not destroy the other.
I suspect the star “captured” the planet, or that they were formed together but that something knocked the planet out of its original orbit.
It would make for an interesting science fiction plot.

Only 10 million years to go! Man, better get those house projects done. Forget that. I’m getting the phone number of every hot chick I meet! I got nothing to lose. We are all gonna be dead in 10 million years anyway.

A few billion years from now the Earth will be devoured by the sun as it expands into a red giant.
This puts an upper limit on my long range planning.
