The Political Chemistry of Oil
In the Gulf oil spill’s aftermath, Lisa Margonelli says drilling moratoriums and executive ousters make for good theater, but distract from the issue at its heart: our unrestrained oil consumption. She shares her bold plan to wean America off of oil — by confronting consumers with its real cost.

To sainttjames, regarding your comment above:
Aside from labeling and pigeonholing the speaker, what is your point? What do you think about the ideas she offers in the last few minutes of the talk? Should we be taxing gas at a higher rate to reduce our use? Should we put health warning labels on the receipt? Is reducing our consumption of oil important. What would you do?

sainttjames – how does your “proximity implies causation” reasoning work when considering other Yale grads, for example, George W. Bush? Or their hiring of Stanley McChrystal to teach this fall?
Isn’t it more accurate (though more work) to consider the facts and logic of any debate, rather than just the actors’ background? Not doing the former will kill you in investing.

I could feel my brain cells dying the more I listened to her dreck. One strawman after another set up and knocked down. I couldn’t make it to the end. It’s the equivalent of mental waterboarding.
