How great is this? Every state in the US, as identified by their major TV show:

    Found this as well:

I made a map of what movies I think best represent US states. Hope I didn’t miss any…

Red Dawn is a good one for Colorado, but that’s not my generation :). I’d go for South Park.

Of all the shows set in CA, Baywatch?

  4. Fredex Says:

    Wisconsin should be Happy Days.

Pah, Frasier? Might as well be set on the East Coast… it’s set in Seattle but they didn’t even film there. Very little reflected my experiences growing up there. Not glaringly wrong but not particularly right either.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frasier :
“Cherry believes that Frasier was able to stay fresh by not making any contemporary commentary, therefore allowing the show to be politically and socially neutral”
That concept seemed to extend to the locale on all but the most basic levels.

I nominate “The Good Wife” for Chicago, IL. Drama with good writing.
NJ as the Soprano state? Nah, it’s the property tax state. Something like 600 towns and 600 school boards.

What moron chose “Coach” over “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” to represent Minnesota?

And really — “Walker, Texas Ranger” over “Dallas?” I don’t think so.

  8. BenJ Says:

“Mork & Mindy” over “Dynasty?” Uh-uh.

Gotta say that I never heard of a lot of these, but then there are a lot of obscure states in the US. Would have to 2nd Happy Days, Dallas and Mary Tyler Moore for WI, TX and MN.

BenJ: I thought Dynasty was set in SoCal.

Home Improvement is a way better pick for MI than Freaks and Geeks. Would also nominate One Day at a Time for Indiana over the newbie Parks & Rec. CSI or possibly “Vegas” seems more logical for NV. Drew Carey and WKRP would be a toss up for Ohio. Technically, Married with Children ran longer than Roseanne, though Roseanne was the bigger hit.

Should have check IMDB first, yep Dynasty was set in Denver.

Just hit me that The Bob Newhart Show is a way better choice than either Roseanne or MWC for IL

  12. pjschgo Says:

Roseanne?!?! Seriously!?!? Illinois is the setting for some of the greatest TV shows in history — E/R, Married with Children, Bob Newhart, Good Times — and we get friggin’ Roseanne?!?! Damn, I’d rather claim Steve Urkel or Jim Belushi.
