Wiki Leak World Map
Everyone seems to be going batty over the big Wikileak data dump.
• How media is visualizing the ‘Cablegate’
• Reuters sums up early reactions from pundits.
• Editorials:
• British think tank believes the really secret stuff hasn’t and probably won’t get leaked. (Millions of people already had access to these cables).
I haven’t gotten into the details, but I can tell you it makes for beautiful chart porn, via Der Spiegel (English site):

Wilileaks appears to be the subject of a Denial of Service attack.
WikiLeaks has reported that its Web site is currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack. The whistleblower Web site posted an update via Twitter early Sunday afternoon.
The attack comes around the time of an expected release of classified State Department documents, which the Obama administration says will put “countless” lives at risk, threaten global counterterrorism operations and jeopardize U.S. relations with its allies. The expected released of State Department documents is expected to be seven times the size of the 400,000 Iraq war documents released in October.

Some of the stuff I have read are embarassing more than being secret or confidential.
I want to see Wikileaks to reveal FED RESERVE’s stuff, that would be interesting.

might be more to “Julian Assange” than meets the eye .|.|.

And we’ll see WikiLeaks disclose cables/conversations/documents from the Russians, Al Qaeda, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, the Taliban, Iran…NEVER.
Does Julian Assange have a political ax to grind or is he just lazy, leaking whatever is dropped into his lap?

Wikileaks is doing a job other media won’t — because it would interfere with their selling ad space for condos in the low $400′s.
…
Some Congress critter says Julian “could have blood on his hands”. I say instead: “the people with blood on their hands could have blood on their hands”. (I.e., f****** hypocrites.)

Creepily coincidental Comcast internet outtage currently in Boston.
November 28th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
Maybe I’m missing something, but this seems like a big yawn to me. I haven’t seen any excerpt yet that was even surprising.
Diplomatic communications and politics are what they are and what they have always been; this stuff is no exception.

Reading rumors that Comcast internet is down for the entire northeast. This is almost as spooky as Barry’s all cash call the night before the Flash Crash.
Barry, is your traffic way down tonight?

BR: Rather typical for a Sundy night/holiday — about 1500 page views per hour

@Transor Z – Reading rumors that Comcast internet is down for the entire northeast.
Comcast is working fine here in western Connecticut.
November 28th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
There do seem to be some issues with Comcast in eastern CT and MA….

Some of these cables are pretty amazing.
I found this one to be a good read:
“Dagestani weddings are serious business”
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/28/world/20101128-cables-viewer.html#report/cables-06MOSCOW9533
“After Ramzan sped off, the dinner and drinking –
especially the latter — continued. An Avar FSB colonel
sitting next to us, dead drunk, was highly insulted that we
would not allow him to add “cognac” to our wine. “It’s
practically the same thing,” he insisted, until a Russian FSB
general sitting opposite told him to drop it. We were
inclined to cut the Colonel some slack, though: he is head
of the unit to combat terrorism in Dagestan, and Gadzhi told
us that extremists have sooner or later assassinated everyone
who has joined that unit. We were more worried when an
Afghan war buddy of the Colonel’s, Rector of the Dagestan
University Law School and too drunk to sit, let alone stand,
pulled out his automatic and asked if we needed any
protection. At this point Gadzhi and his people came over,
propped the rector between their shoulders, and let us get
out of range.”

If you really want to take the tin foil hats to the extreme, follow the story on cryptome.org
http://cryptome.org/0002/wikileaks-unlike.htm
Some of the best, most consistent paranoia ever was wikileaks inviting John Young (of cryptome) to be part of wikileaks.

Very good back story in there if you can sift through the double, triple (squared?) speak.

La raison d’etat is not a public domain, but when it involves manipulation, you should really ask yourself what you’re aiming for.

Can I take it that Julian Assange will not be taking his holidays in Florida?
November 29th, 2010 at 5:27 am
Sir Christopher meyer got it right, it’ won’t restrain candor but will lead to increased security going forward. This appears to be more embarrassing than anything else. Wikileaks is a bunch of amateurs. Just think what the Russians & Chinese have already gotten.

OK, but so far it look like nobody yet knows of Putin and his wonderbra. WiliLeaks looks like D-List material. Why bother?

Shocking to me the lack of respect accorded to beloved-by-his people and global statesman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

I think the gov’t response is worrisome. There may be important first ammendment principles at stake here. The traditional press is not doing their job and the definition of what the press is, due to the internet, bloggers, etc has clearly changed.
