Japan’s Emergency Warning System Gave 30 Seconds Quake Warning
Japans’ system detects P-waves, and then alerts you on your computer before the bigger S-waves arrive. They also do this on every TV station, and will send texts to your mobile phone. Better to have 30 seconds warning than no warning.

The waves with the most shaking are the surface waves, which are even slower than the S waves.

Amazing system. But the female voice is almost too soothing. Maybe Arnie can provide the system some selected quotes.

In 30 seconds an earthquake is going to hit. Your first response is to:
A) Seek shelter,
B) Secure objects that are likely to fall and break, or
C) Get your camera and start filming.

Thirty seconds does not sound like much, but it may be enough time to find something to protect yourself with. Warned is better than not anytime.
