Open source would also be a way to get and keep more kids interested in science/math in that field. How cool would it be to be 14 and be able to work on NASA code if that is what you were into? Of course, this will be fought tooth and nail by the contractors and their bought and paid for congressmen. Not to mention that probably no one in congress could even code one line of software. Hell, half of them probably don’t even use a computer.
