    97×86 = (100-3)x(100-14) = 10,000-300-1,400+42, easier to keep track of, and keeps with an idea of estimation and making calculations easier.

    reverse counting pennies at the cash register to get full quarters for the video and pool games stumps the kids all the time :-| just say “type it in”
    $2 of bills for $1.86 of stuff (w/taxes) do a minus one penny minus one dime = a quarter for play later
