I am reading IN MY TIME (Cheney memoire). He has had a most interesting career in public service and deserves to be heard. After the hedging and flim- flamming on CNBC this morning, his blunt retrospective is a welcome relief.

Disclosure: I read political memoires from both ends of the spectrum.

“Debt super committee vexes even lobbyists” – Reuters

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/29/us-usa-debt-lobbyists-idUSTRE77S5B220110829

    - Vin Weber, a Republican congressman turned lobbyist, said efforts to lobby committee members create a delicate situation. “You have to be careful about it because in order for the deal to have credibility with the public it can’t be seen to have been forged by lobbyists and influenced by money,” he said. -

The point Weber makes is not that lobbyists can’t run the show. It’s that they can’t be SEEN as running the show.

Didn’t these Tricolor-wearing flounces learn anything from Bush’s disastrous dickering around in Katrina, and past GOP stonewalling of emergency aid?

  9. Bokolis Says:

Shiller is right. Our debt was amassed primarily from transfering wealth up the economic ladder. If those entities don’t have the balls to deploy their gifted capital, let’s tax them and spend it for them.

    Good luck making that happen.
