I really like this guy’s position about getting dirty money out of politics due to its corrosive effect on the process:

Republican presidential candidate Buddy Roemer discusses institutional corruption in politics and explains why he cannot attend the Republican debate in California.

The question of how to reform the system should be the first issue that any candidate should respond to. The fact that it is not ever broached by the ‘sponsors’ and that Corporations are considered people demonstrates just how institutionalized the corruption is.

In 2000, maybe this would have made sense. In 2004, sure, if it hadn’t been for the war (which should have helped, in any reasonable country, but not in the US). I don’t think it will work – for my generation and the next. Yes, the US needs to get out of its one-and-a-half party system. Yes, it should have a democracy in stead of a republic. But it’s just not going to happen peacefully. Not anymore.

Teddy Roosevelt was a man of wealth before he entered office, he stood against plutonomy and recognized that a Democracy was for ALL the people, He created the ideology behind the progressive movement, as well as the progressive tax, despite public accusations of being a “socialist”, he stood his ground for EVERY American, not just his wealthy friends.

We are in dire need of another Teddy Roosevelt, Roemer seems to fit the bill.

This guy is what America DESPERATELY needs right now.
