The distribution of the world’s super-rich is shifting. Grainne Gilmore seeks out future global wealth hotspots and discovers it’s not all about China.

London School of Economics professor Danny Quah has calculated that the world’s economic centre of gravity – the average location of economic activity by GDP – is on the move. By 2050, the steady rise of emerging economies in Asia will have pushed the theoretical centre of gravity modelled by Professor Quah from its location in 1980 in the Atlantic Ocean to somewhere between China and India by 2050. He predicts that political infl uence will follow a similar trajectory eastwards.

Is there a similar chart for the center of population over time, and the various subsets of this (especially by religion and ethnicity)?
The “wealth” focus may be inviting to the mind, but where will the world’s population surge next?
Is the focus on wealth a cognitive bias?
Are the world’s rats, and other rapidly expanding population subsets, wealthy?
“Andromeda Strain?”
“Soylent Green?”
Have a good weekend.
Crisis in the western economies and growth in the upcoming economies. It’s a matter of time before the Eastern economic centra will be bigger and more important than the one’s in the west. The only thing that can ofset this trend is the political instability of some upcoming economies.

All of which begs the question: Does any of this really matter?
Nice info but the extrapolations to year 2050!? (aka as predictions) cannot be taken seriously, Man proposes, God disposes.
We need to TAX all of these individuals out of existence world wide period! The wealthy are using their money to LORD over the world with criminal intent and outcomes.
No one should ever be allowed to be that wealthy. Government always decides who gets the money and government has the power to fix this.
Cap all wealth at $10,000,000 and tax everything at 100% over that amount – if the greedy evil doers can live happily on $10,000,000 to bad.
We need to end the relentless government sponsored and voter sanctioned class warfare worldwide. Greed is not good – it does not create jobs – it has no empathy – it clearly has been the source of all evil throughout all history!
We the people can make it happen – problem is guys like you are to damned afraid to even suggest something like I propose. You’ll probably scrub my post!
Corruption caused by greed and wealth is ruining the world and anyone with half a brain who is paying attention to the global impact knows that to be a fact of our collective observed reality.
While growth is inevitable in much of the areas you expect to see centamillionaires grow in it is quite different to be a “RED Prince”, “Russian Oligarch” or ” Robert Mugabe kleptocrat” centamillionaire than say create Fbook centamillionaire.
Fifty-nine percent increase in Brazil’s centamillionaires, 2011-2016?
Nice example of extrapolating the recent past into the future. Unbeknownst to Grannie Gilmore, Brazil is slipping into recession, along with the rest of the emerging world. That’s going to put the brakes on the growth in centamillionaires for awhile.
Grannie ought to stick to her knitting — that is, focus on what is, not on goofy ‘predictions.’ Ten predictions and $2.25 will get you a bus ride in New York City!
Just what I thought – look at me daddy – no comment from the man with the stage.
America – a nation of sissy pants bed wetters – too afraid to stand up to the devils ruining life for the others.
Please use the comments to demonstrate your own ignorance, – your arrogance os profound – too bad – you could start something that would sweep the world – little man – little ideas! Way to go – your should change the name of your blog to Little Picture!
