    I once got an email from the nephew of Laurent Kabila, the recently assassinated leader of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, asking me to help him retrieve several million dollars in one of his uncle’s frozen bank accounts.

    All it took was a quick look at Congo’s Fitch Credit Rating, and I knew that helping the fellow wasn’t worth my time.
