A classic cover indicator, 14 years old today.

I love this BusinessWeek cover, circa February 14th 2000, because it is literally weeks from the ultimate topping in markets in general and technology/dotcoms in particular:

“Time to celebrate. This month, the current economic expansion became the longest in U.S. history. The boom has done more than create millions of new jobholders and stock owners. It has also restored the public’s confidence and given more people than ever a shot at the American Dream. We tell the story”

Um, not so much.

  1. Yes a classic top signal BR.

I am awaiting the “equities are dead” cover to know that we are about to start the next great bull market. There is far too much froth in equities at the moment.

  2. Ted Kavadas says:

Some “classic” material in the article…including the last line: “The country will never be the same.”

  3. VennData says:

    Then we elected Bush.

    More like Ka-Boom

It’s a 13-year old cover if it is from 2000.

  5. Malachi says:

Fascinating. The more confident we humans are about the future, the more likely we are off track.

When to run with the herd and when to head in the opposite direction is the key to wealth creation.
