Martin Wolf: Living in Lehman’s Shadow

The idea that this was a private [banking] system was revealed to be an illusion. Taxpayers woke up to discover that bankers were exceptionally highly paid and out-of-control civil servants.

Re Fuld selling his house for $10 to his wife:

I’m not a lawyer but it seems to be self-dealing to sell real estate to your wife. In Illinois you are considered the same person for real estate matters at least for the family home. In any case, the amount is so absurdly low that the wife should be considered a co-conspirator in fraudulently shielding assets.

Re Callan waiting until age 47 for her first pregnancy:

Shows how greed can blind you to what’s real in life.
