Apple is buying a brand. Everything else, the technology, the music deals, they could build themselves, and for less cost.

Why? Because brand is why Apple has such high margins on their iPhones, not technology. In consumer electronics, typically margins compress very fast as soon as there is competition. So far Apple has defied gravity and kept their gross margins up. They hope Beats keeps the Apple brand young, hip and premium.

The headphones suck btw. Apple destroyed music quality with the iPod by reducing quality to the lowest possible standard consumers would accept. Beats doesn’t change that.

Can some PLEASE link an article from a conservative media source so I know what to think about this?

I know I shouldn’t like this, but I am not sure how. Ben Stein? Rupert Murdoch? Rush? Putin? Anybody!

Smart seniors might have this gene variant
    Updated 6:28 am, Friday, May 9, 2014

A gene variant that scientists already knew to be associated with longer life also seems to make people smarter, and may help offset the effects of normal cognitive decline in old age, according to a team of San Francisco researchers.

The findings, published Thursday in the journal Cell Reports, are encouraging news for the roughly 1 in 5 people who have the genetic trait, which is a variant of the klotho gene.

Beyond that, scientists hope the findings will help them develop tools for retaining, or even boosting, intelligence in people who have suffered cognitive losses, either from disease or through the normal course of aging.

    Semi-synthetic bug extends ‘life’s alphabet’

Scientists have produced a semi-synthetic version of a bacterium that has an extended genetic code.

All Earth’s lifeforms use four chemical units, or bases, arranged in pairs within DNA, to drive their biology.

The modified E. coli bug produced at The Scripps Research Institute in California incorporates two more bases that were wholly designed in the lab.

The team tells Nature magazine that its altered bacterium could be used to make a range of novel drugs and materials.

Why we are paying benefits for the long past wars is less interesting than what DVA will pay for the current wars on terrorists around the Muslim world.

The DVA budget is around $160B in 2014, about half of it for “entitlements”.

The senate refused adding $21B. While veterans are dying to get services.

The proper question is what total amount in trillions will the DVA have paid for Irasudyemistan by 2085?
