IMO the best search engine is Kayak.com, which scans a number of sites and returns everything. You then have to go page by page to check each one, Priceline, Orbitz, etc. Even then you need to go to Virgin Air and JetBlue as they never seem to be included. It would be nice to have a one-stop site that also provides for flexible flights. But hey! The Interweb is still young, right? ;-)

However, using this system, I snagged a round trip from Sacramento to Ft Lauderdale and back for a total price of $270 last year. No too shabby for a few minute’s work.

For travel within Europe, such as regional air routes and hotel bookings, try using the Spanish travel site http://www.Destinia.com. Saved a few hundred using them last summer versus what http://www.Expedia.com charged for the same items (air and hotel reservations). Plus, at Destinia, your travel itinerary is assigned to a specific Destinia employee. They e-mail you so you have their e-mail address after you book. Just respond to their e-mail with any questions or concerns–they’re pretty prompt with replying.

Google Maps has a lot of errors also.

    I miss travel agents.

I also miss the government regulated fares of the 60’s and 70’s where you knew that no one was getting a better deal than you and you could change flights to another airline without penalty. Airlines competed on service instead of being flying cattle cars.
